Privacy Notice
Version 1, October 2026
This notice explains what personal information CS Driving keeps about learners (and parents or guardians), why, and how long for.
Who I am
CS Driving is run by me, Cliff Shread, a DVSA Approved Driving Instructor. I decide how your information is used, so I am the “data controller” for it. The best way to reach me is by text on 07932 983656.
What information I collect
| When | What I collect |
|---|---|
| You enquire | Name, mobile number, postcode, when you are available |
| You become a learner | Full address (for pick-ups), email address (to send your drive schedule), whether the learner is over 17, a parent or guardian’s name and mobile if under 18, driving experience, anything you choose to tell me that may affect lessons, and your choices about terms, privacy, short-notice offers and publicity photos |
| During training | Drives booked and cancelled, payments, progress notes, driving test dates and results |
| Licence check | The date I checked your licence and that it was valid. You send me the check details directly; I do not keep your licence number, check code or licence summary |
| Photos | Only if you give separate written permission |
If you tell me about a health condition, I use it only to keep our lessons safe and do not share it.
Why I use it
| What I use it for | Legal reason |
|---|---|
| Replying to your enquiry and arranging drives | Steps you asked for before an agreement, then our agreement (contract) |
| Running lessons: diary, pick-ups, progress, test preparation, schedule emails and reminders | Our agreement (contract) |
| Payments, refunds and business accounts | Legal obligation (tax and accounting records) |
| Checking you are entitled to drive | Legal obligation and our agreement |
| Offering spare drives at short notice | Your consent (you can say no or change your mind at any time) |
| Publicity photos | Your separate written consent |
| Anything you tell me about health | Your explicit consent, used only for safety |
I never use your information for advertising and I never sell it.
Who I share it with
I only share what is needed, with:
- The companies that run my systems: Supabase (secure database for my diary and records), Netlify (website hosting), and an email service that sends your drive schedule and reminders. They process it on my instructions only.
- DVSA: when I check your licence using their view-or-share service, and for driving test matters.
- My accountant and HMRC: payment records, when tax law requires it.
- Anyone the law requires: for example the police, if legally required.
My diary calendar on my own devices shows only your name, drive time and address.
How long I keep it
| Information | Kept for |
|---|---|
| Enquiries that don’t go ahead | 12 months after we last spoke, then deleted |
| Learner details (address, contacts, notes, anything about health) | 12 months after your last drive, then deleted |
| Payment and booking records | As long as tax law requires: at least 5 years after the 31 January tax-return deadline for that year |
| Licence check | Only the date it was checked and that it was valid, kept with your learner record |
| Publicity photos | Until you ask me to stop using them |
Your rights
You can ask me to:
- give you a copy of the information I hold about you
- correct anything that is wrong
- delete your information (unless the law says I must keep it, such as payment records)
- stop or limit how I use it, or object to a use
- withdraw any consent you gave (short-notice offers, photos, health information) at any time
Text me on 07932 983656 and I will reply within one month.
You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk).
